Fiona joined BERL in 2007 after working for Careers New Zealand, where she researched the labour market, and occupation and industry information for the Careers website and various publications. She has a social science, science, and technical writing background. This means Fiona has practical research skills such as interviewing and surveying, along with data management and analytical skills.
Fiona enjoys working on projects that have a labour market, skills and training focus, and has completed research for employers, industry and training providers. She has also worked extensively with professional bodies and associations.
More recently Fiona has extended her labour market research to include number of projects related to the Māori economy. This has allowed her to work more one-on-one with Māori entities, iwi, and hapu, on projects related to economic development, iwi strategic plans, and Treaty of Waitangi claims.
In her free time Fiona likes to partake in overly-active outdoor pursuits that involve travel, she runs marathons, and is constantly pursuing an endless winter.
