Hugh joined BERL in 2010 after having spent seven years working for Statistics New Zealand as an analyst.  In his time at Statistics New Zealand Hugh worked on both economic and social statistic projects.  Hugh’s interest is in the external trade sector, and he completed post-graduate study on the economic impacts of freer trade between New Zealand and South East Asia.

Hugh writes the international trade section of BERL’s Birds Eye View.  He also conducts a lot of data research and analysis, and applies that knowledge to economic impact assessments.  Here, his experience in economics and social statistics, allows Hugh to see the bigger picture of the numbers he is working with.

Hugh works closely with Jason and Wilma on our regional profiles, and is our resident Excel, GIS and Harmoni expert.  He also builds and populates models, not only for the BERL team but for our clients.

In his spare time, Hugh enjoys baking goodies for his workmates, and playing football, cricket and strategy games.
