Mark has nearly 35 years of experience as an economist in academia, the non-government sector, consulting and the public service. He has worked in the United Kingdom and New Zealand. His experience has mainly focused on: evaluation of public policy interventions; strategy development and implementation; and, labour market issues.
Before joining BERL in 2013, Mark worked for Housing New Zealand, the Tertiary Education Commission and Statistics New Zealand
He came to New Zealand in 2003, and before that he spent 13 years with one of the UK’s leading specialist economics consultancies. During that time, he specialised in the areas of technology transfer and commercialisation, policy evaluation, economic impact studies and strategy development.
In his spare time, Mark enjoys coaching and refereeing junior football, being an assistant Scout leader, and getting involved with church activities. Coming originally from the UK, he is also an ardent and long-suffering football supporter. So, naturally, he is a die-hard Wellington Phoenix fan.
